How to: Get off Jury Duty

I was recently reminded of this hilarious 30 Rock ep because my friend L. has been called up for jury duty!

I know, I never thought it actually happened to real people! So anyway, to get out of it I suggested she take a tip from Liz Lemon and dress as Princess Leia.

But apparently when you go it's best to look smart - they don't want people who actually understand the logistics of the case to be on the jury!

Have you had to do jury duty before? What was it like?

I was called ONCE....LOL I got dismissed immediately because I raised my hand when the judge asked "who believes there are too many frivilous lawsuits?"

I just got done with jury duty not too long ago. I called to be on a trial right away. It was interesting, but such a PAIN to call everyday for 2 weeks to see if you need to go in....

I was actually really impressed with our justice system after my short time in the jury pool. I was not selected for a jury, but I watched two juries being selected.

I used to think they didn't want smart people either, but they picked a college professor and other educated, intelligent people. They also selected people who hadn't gone to college but who were thoughtful and seemed to not be idiots.

I wanted to slap the people who claimed they were "against capital punishment" and then couldn't say why. The few people who had principled objections to it were very easily able to articulate the reasons they did not believe in it.

The others were lying, which ticked me off, because serving on a jury is a privilege and a duty that we have in this country. It is one of the few things we are asked to do in exchange for our system. I've lived in countries run by dictators or just out of dictatorships and trust me, you don't want their system.

I was picked to be on a jury last year. It was boring, slow, I had to pee most of the time and the DA slipped me his number at the end of the trial... yikes.

Haha House of Milk that's hilarious! Did you ever call him?

I told the defense lawyer if his client didn't take the stand then I'd assume he was guilty....I sent home right after...never got my check in the mail!
